Godley Western Fellowship began in the heart of Pastor Don DeFoor after realizing there was a tremendous need for a church that would reach out to the western heritage people in the Godley area. After much prayer and several core group meetings, it was apparent that God was leading to start this new place of worship. On November 7, 2010, almost 90 people gathered (not including the 6 horses) at Triple Cross Horse Ranch, for the inaugural service.
We quickly outgrew the barn and moved to a store front downtown. Six months later, we were out of room there as well and moved across the street to the Godley Fire Department. On our second anniversary, well over 200 worshipers gathered at Godley Intermediate School, where we met for nine months. In June 2012, we purchased 15 ½ acres at 988 N. FM 2331, a major artery in Godley. By the good grace of God, on June 2, 2013, we moved into our first worship center with a packed house. November 1, 2015 was our fifth anniversary and we were blessed beyond measure to dedicate our new sanctuary that day.
We use Equestrian activities to attract western world individuals just as other churches use various sports to do the same. You should know however, we're made up of all walks of life, you do not have to be a cowboy to attend church here. Our congregation ranges from working cowboys to white collar professionals. So, whether you ride a horse or a Harley, you own a cattle company or a computer company, you wear suits or boots, everyone is welcome at GWF. Regardless of occupation or background, we are truly “Worship For The Western Lifestyle ”
All the music at GWF has one purpose, to bring honor to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Since we are predominantly a western heritage fellowship, it’s only natural that our taste in music has a country flavor. We sing old hymns, new choruses and just about anything in between. Regardless of the tempo of the tunes, the songs are about the Savior.
We’re blessed to have a great house band that regularly brings us into His Presence. To get to know the band better, click The GWF Band button.
We teach from the Bible as it is, to people as they are. Our goal is to bring sermons that are both relevant and timely. Relevant to our culture and practical for today's needs. The end result is to reach our community for Christ in a manner that is both unique and appropriate to our rural way of life.
We exist to let the world to know that Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. In Him there is forgiveness, in Him there is fullness of joy and in Him there is eternal life. GWF is not just a cool place to attend church, God is showing Himself and changing lives. If you’re looking for a Church, come see us this Sunday.
